The Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) Announces Eight New Trustees


SALT LAKE CITY , Utah , March 31, 2004 – The Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) will announce eight new members of its Board of Trustees at the Annual UITA Members Meeting on Thursday, April 1. The meeting will take place at the Marriott City Center in Capital Room A.

New trustee appointments include the following: A. Scott Anderson, Lane Beattie, Bob Carter, Mike Mangelson, Scott McKinley, Bill Sederburg, Mary Shumway, and Brad Walters.

“We are extremely pleased at the caliber of executives who are joining UITA’s board,” said UITA President Richard Nelson. “These eight individuals bring tremendous business and community leadership to UITA that is critical to advancing the growing technology industry that is so core to our state.”

 
A. Scott Anderson
 

Scott Anderson is President and Chief Executive Officer of Zions First National Bank. Scott joined Zions Bank in 1991 as executive vice president of Retail Banking. Prior to joining Zions, he spent 17 years with Bank of America in San Francisco, holding a number of positions. He also spent seven years working in Bank of America’s Asia Division, headquartered in Tokyo.

 
Lane Beattie
 
Lane Beattie is the current President and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. A long time real estate broker, Lane was elected to the Utah Senate in 1989. In 1991 he served as Senate Majority Whip, in 1992 became Majority Leader, and in 1994 was elected Utah Senate President, a role he filled for six years until June 2000. President Beattie assumed leadership of the Salt Lake Chamber on July 1, 2003
 
Bob Carter
 
Robert W. Carter is CEO of First Choice Solutions, which provides nationwide claims handling solutions for mobile electronics to the insurance industry. He has been an owner and senior executive in four different startup companies.
 
Mike Mangelson
 
Mike Mangelson is a member of the law firm Stoel Rives in the area of Technology and Intellectual Property (IP). His practice focuses on IP transactions and trademarks. Mike routinely consults on long-term IP strategies that help secure and protect market positioning and competitive advantages.
 
Scott McKinley
 
Scott McKinley is CEO of Northface University. Scott brings 20 years of experience in private and public equity and strategic consulting to his role. Prior to founding Northface University, Scott was the founder and Managing Director of Chase Capital Partners in Asia, the private equity investment arm of JP Morgan Chase Bank.
 
Bill Sederburg
 

William A. Sederburg is President of Utah Valley State College. Dr. Sederburg served in the Michigan State Senate and in various educational capacities. He also chaired Cyber-state.org, Michigan’s leading advocacy group for information technology. Prior to coming to UVSC, he served as president of Ferris State University in Grand Rapids

where he expanded the academic program, increased enrollment and renovated facilities in a short period of time.

 
Mary Shumway
 
Mary Munroe Shumway is the State Director of Applied Technology Education at the Utah State Office of Education. She provides leadership for nationally-recognized education programs in Utah’s high schools and junior highs, which prepare students for success in today’s IT industry.
 
Brad Walters
 

Brad Walters is President and CEO of MaxStream, a role he has held since November, 2000. Under Brad’s direction, MaxStream has experienced tremendous growth, emerging as a leading provider of wireless connectivity solutions. Prior to MaxStream, Brad co-founded Lineo, Inc., a leading developer of imbedded Linux technologies. He has also served in management positions at Caldera, PacificHiTech and Pinnacle Multimedia Inc.
