The Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) Announces Five New Trustees


SALT LAKE CITY, August 12, 2004 - The Utah Information Technology Association (UITA) announced five new members of its Board of Trustees at their trustee meeting that occurred at the Marriott City Center on July 15, 2004.

New trustee appointments include the following: Richard B. Brown, Jerry Fenn, Rich Kendell, Eric Olafson and Wes Swenson.

"We are delighted about the incredible experience that these leaders bring to UITA's board," said UITA President Richard Nelson. "These five individuals bring tremendous business and community leadership to UITA which is essential to advancing the growing technology industry that has become so vital to our state."

Richard B. Brown
Richard Brown is Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Utah. Professor Brown holds appointments in the School of Computing and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prior to his time at the University of Utah Brown served as associate chair, then as interim chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Michigan. He is a founder of Sensicore, i-sens, and Mobius Microsystems.

Jerry Fenn
Jerry Fenn is the Utah president of Qwest Communications, a leading provider of voice, video and data services. He has served in a number of different volunteer capacities in the Utah State Bar, American Bar Association and in the community. Previously, Fenn worked at the law firm of Blackburn & Stoll, L.C. At the firm, he represented The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an attorney and advocate on a variety of governmental issues.

Rich E. Kendell
Richard Kendell is Utah's sixth Commissioner of Higher Education. Dr. Kendell boasts a long and distinguished career in education in Utah. Kendell has served in a variety of positions including, research and planning analyst for the office of Commissioner of Higher Education, Associate Superintendent for the State Office of Education and Superintendent of one of the state's largest school districts, the Davis School District.

Eric Olafson
Eric Olafson is president and chief executive officer of Tomax Corporation, the leading provider of centrally hosted solutions for retail store operations management. He has an extensive background in systems development, marketing and sales organizations, and is a leading proponent of the thin-client revolution in retail and has been extensively quoted in industry and trade journals. In 2001, Olafson was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year®.

Weston W. Swenson
Wes Swenson is president and chief executive officer of Forum Systems, Inc., the leader in Web services security with a comprehensive suite of Trust Management and Threat Protection solutions for the Automated Web. With almost two decades of experience in the IT Infrastructure and Network Security Sectors, Swenson brings a wealth of experience to his leadership role to UITA's board of trustees. He formerly served as the CFO of Phobos Corporation and Novell, Inc.
